WHAT’S HOT IN MUMBAI was ecstatic when we were invited to explore Sri Lanka's culinary treasures without leaving Mumbai. Well, the golden opportunity is now available with a mind-blowing pop-up. RopewalkSri Lanka’s first arrack specialty bar, nestled in the 300-year-old structure of the historic Galle Fort Hotel, make their Indian debut at Ishaara Mumbai. 

This limited edition menu from the Ropewalk team is from September 27-29, 2024. However, this à la carte menu featuring Ropewalk's modern Sri Lankan creations will be available for an additional week, allowing more food enthusiasts to embark on this flavorful expedition.

WHAT’S HOT IN MUMBAI was amongst the chosen few to experience the culinary voyage to Sri Lankan delicacies. The Ropewalk team has debunked all those misconceptions that ‘the Sri Lankan food is too spicy’ and have unfurled a scintillating fine dining experience for Connoisseurs. The beauty of the menu curation is the rustic flavors that ooze as dynamite shots of ballistic explosions thanks to the vibrant flavors and aromatic qualities. Alongside flavor progression, the textural contrasts were flawless and effortless. Transitioning from smooth and creamy to crunchy and crisp added depth to the experience, making each course feel fresh and exciting.

The mixologist team has curated some captivating, alluring and intriguing cocktails. The blends include regional herbs and spices—like lemongrass, ginger, and cinnamon, creating mind-boggling, refreshing and aromatic concoctions.

The Food review:

The set menu includes similar variations for the vegetarians. Each serving has oodles of unique flavors which resonate with the Sri Lankan cuisine. The menu has tried to incorporate and encapsulate a varied flavor tone from each region of the country. The second serving was the Jaffna Kool, a delightful seafood bisque that beautifully embodies the flavors of the northern coast. The broth is rich and hearty with fresh grilled seafood. The flavor tones offer the oceanic goodness, the crispy fried moringa adds a wonderful crunch. Certainly, a warm and comforting bowl that’s perfect for seafood lovers.

Next in line was the Devilled Chicken Skewers, another standout dish. Juicy, bold flavors of the southern province trickle down your palate. The expertly grilled, delivers a juicy, tender bite loaded with punchy spices. Each skewer is a flavorful adventure that’s sure to satisfy any palate.

The flavor tempo builds up to swoon your gastronomic senses to a penultimate high. The Banana Leaf Wrapped Baked Fish is a true delight that showcases the region's coastal charm. This culinary creation is a lovely fusion of taste and texture, the dramatic pouring of this heavenly, soothing and lilting gravy is the magical twist to the dish. The spice-rubbed super-soft and fresh fish fillet is perfectly cooked, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully with the fragrant oriental greens.

This dessert surely has loads of tipsy tones to it, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The rich layers of chocolate and buttery biscuit are all elevated by the subtle warmth of arrack.
