Review by @whatshotaryaa

Mumbai is a paradise for food lovers, especially those who enjoy coastal cuisine. While numerous restaurants across the city serve seafood specialties, the choices often remain limited to a handful of popular dishes. Rare coastal cuisines are hard to come by, and even when they are available, the flavors tend to be diluted due to the omission of exotic spices that define their authenticity. However, one restaurant in Mumbai is changing the game by offering a dynamic menu that celebrates the rich diversity of coastal flavors. With an impressive selection of nine coastal cuisines, plus an exciting addition of Sri Lankan dishes, this culinary hotspot promises an authentic and flavorful experience unlike any other in the city.

Welcome to a pioneering coastal cuisine fine dining escape for the senses. WHAT’S HOT IN MUMBAI experienced a gastronomic journey across 9 Indian coastal states plus Sri Lanka, all on one plate.

‘TAT’ (pronounced as ‘tath’), located at Vikhroli, has warranted that the dynamism of every coastal cuisine dish is crafted with authenticity and respect for tradition. Rich, luxuriously textured gravies, succulent coastal delights make this culinary venture a true pioneer in coastal cuisine, redefining flavors with expertise and passion.

Before we dive into our review, it’s time for some DRUMROLLS to the Visionary Founder, Sumit Govind Sharma for unfurling this dramatic concept and executing it with precision perfection. Kudos to the entire team for doing full justice to the depth and diversity of coastal flavors, ensuring that every bite reflects the essence of its origin. The thoughtfully curated ambiance blends warmth and elegance, creating the perfect setting for a truly immersive dining experience.

Sharing his thoughts on the concept for ‘TAT’, Sumit discloses, "At TAT, we set out to create something truly niche and unique—a space where the rich coastal flavors of India’s nine coastal states and Sri Lanka come alive. We wanted our guests to indulge in the vibrant flavours, fresh seafood, and timeless recipes that define these coastal cultures, creating an experience that is TAT-licious."

What we tried from the exhaustive menu:

Kosha Mangsho (West Bengal) - Rich, bold, and deeply aromatic, this creation bursts with slow-cooked spices and succulent mutton, delivering an authentic taste of Bengal. We paired this with the Bengali luchi, which was pillow soft and an absolute delight.

Bamboo Chicken (Odisha) - Smoky, earthy, and infused with aromatic spices. A sure-shot captivation element for the palate with its tender, juicy texture. Despite the innovative and unique bamboo styled serving dish, there is a noticeable rustic charm that enhanced the depth of a smoky flavor.

Pomfret Recheado (Goa) - Bold, tangy, and bursting with Goan spice, there is a perfect balance of the heat of red chilies with the zest of vinegar, elevating the fresh seafood to a fiery, flavorful delight. The fresh catch added the natural flavors to a penultimate high.

Roast Lollipop (Kerala) – The chicken lollipop has a strong fan following but this variation is crispy, spicy, and packed with Kerala’s signature flavors. You will enjoy a delightful crunch in every bite with a twist in the usual flavors.

Bombil Fry (Maharashtra) – Another best-seller, this one is crispy on the outside, melt-in-the-mouth inside. The chef has captured Maharashtra’s coastal essence with its delicate texture and burst of subtle flavors.

Devilled Prawns (Sri Lanka) – Our first experiment on this fiery, tangy, and irresistibly succulent Sri Lankan Devilled Prawns. Loved the perfectly packaged punch with bold spices, caramelized heat, and a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors.

Malabar Chicken Curry (Kerala) - Rich, creamy, and infused with aromatic spices, this Malabar Chicken Curry delivers a perfect harmony of coconut, curry leaves and true-to-root spices, capturing the essence of Kerala’s coastal cuisine. We paired this with the Kerala Parotta, a flaky, layered flatbread that perfectly soaked up the rich, spiced gravy, making each bite a deliciously indulgent experience.

For desserts, we had a feast with the Bhappa Doi (West Bengal), Badam Puri (Karnataka), and Puran Poli Phyllo Rolls (Maharashtra). Each dessert is a masterpiece with its award-winning flavors.
